I woke shortly before 9 a.m., tossing and turning. The events of the previous day lingered like an echo in my mind.

I twisted, fumbled for a moment, then flopped onto my back, peering up at the top bunk bed and letting loose a frustrated sigh.

The gentle buzz of my cell phone ripped me away from my pondering, and I shimmed into the bed, reaching out for the device. I lifted it, squinting a little to make out the details of a notification on the home screen. My already low spirit sank further, heading for the depths of the Mariana Trench.

The message read:
